Remote workers are normally those who travel or who work away from the office, often from home. Both are well catered and can use a range of Captureit technologies. For those who travel, there is the option of mobile phone technology or using a tablet. In the case of mobile phones, there is also the option of GeoLocation, which means that the location of any clockings can be viewed using Google Maps. Very useful in confirming that on employee was ‘on-site’ at agreed times.
Home based workers can use either Captureit’s web interface or connect using their company’s VPN.
Captureit allows you to manage and monitor remote workers, whether they are located on a remote site, working from home or ‘out on the road’. The options for doing so include mobile devices, such as phones, tablets and laptops.
In the case of home based workers, the Captureit Desktop Interface is a popular option. This provides the full range of features that would otherwise be found on a clocking terminal, including booking to lunch and breaks. There are then additional features, such as the employee being able to display their daily clocked hours, Personal Attendance Calendar, holiday allowances position, and even a view of which of their colleagues are currently clocked in. Connection for home based workers is usually via a VPN or through a web browser, but Web based options are also available.
For employees working at customer sites, or those whose job entails travel, the Mobile Clocking option comes into its own. This feature allows employees to perform the full range of clocking options from their mobile, making it a convenient and easy-to-use facility.
Mobile clocking is available with GeoLocation. This feature displays the location of all clockings using Google Maps. This is invaluable for many reasons, including being able to show to a customer that your employees were on-site at the agreed times. It can also be useful for payroll purposes when travel and on-site hours are paid at different rates.
If an employee is ‘running late’ there is the risk that they might ‘call ahead’ and ask a colleague to clock them in using the colleague’s phone (which will be at their expected location). Captureit will spot this and report this situation, so it can be investigated. Having said this, a trusted supervisor might well be tasked with clocking in/out a set of employees, in which case an alert would not be raised.
Mobile clocking also supports job bookings. This is very useful, since it can replace the need for employees to submit time-sheets showing which jobs have been worked on, which is often a major administrative burden when employees work off-site.
All methods of clocking can be mixed and matched. For example, an employee might start their working week at HQ, where they clock in at a fixed terminal, before leaving site to work remotely for the rest of the day (or week). Irrespective of the location, or the device being used, all clockings are recorded in real-time, so that managers always retain full visibility.
