Understanding Labour Costs

Get more information on individual jobs and a breakdown of your employee’s time using a Job Costing Module

A Time & Attendance system works very well with Job Costing solutions, and at Vizual we supply a Job Costing module that works as an extension of the Captureit Time & Attendance system. Job Costing is an excellent way of getting detailed information concerning individual jobs and the activities of your employees on those jobs.

Detailed Job Breakdown

Using a Job Costing system, you can break down a job into individual operations, enabling your employees to “clock” onto each operation of the job. For example, a job may require the materials being picked, then the materials being processed at machine A, then processed at machine B, then assembled, then sent to QA, then packed and shipped. You would be able to break the job down into those operations, enabling you to see who worked (or is currently working) on each operation. Being able to review this information, in ‘real-time’ keeps you firmly in control.

Budgeting & Review

Each step of a job can be budgeted, with a time and a cost. You can set a cost against a specific job operation (e.g. “Welding” is charged at £25 per hour) or the individual working on that step (e.g. James Smith is charged out at £30.00 per hour). When reviewing a job, you can see how much time and cost was budgeted, as well as the actual time and cost. In doing so, you can ‘drill down’ to understand who worked on the job, when, for how long and at what cost. You can even budget for re-work, enabling you to capture the cost for any extra work that may be required. If either budgeted time or cost exceeds budget you would be immediately emailed of this fact.

Employee Activity

In addition to Job Costing bookings, employees are able to book to other activities such as breaks, lunch, overtime and non-productive activities, such as waiting for work, machine breakdown, training and the like. This means you fully understand how employee paid hours are being spent in aiming for maximum efficiency.
